Isadora Cowl

I’ll be honest, I was initially a bit concerned about knitting a scarf called Isadora, given that the actress, Isadora Duncan, died when her scarf got caught in the wheels of her car in Nice. I was also a tad wary when  I saw that the pattern required 20 stitch markers – however, it is such a beautiful design that I decided to have a go and I’m really pleased that I did.

The cowl is designed by Louisa Harding and knitted in two of her yarns: chunky-weight Amitola Grande (shade 503) and aran-weight Trenzar (shade 306). It is knitted in the round on 6mm circular needles. I used a KnitPro Zing circular, which in the 6mm size is purple – all very colour-coordinated. I quickly dispensed with all stitch markers (excpet the one marking the beginning of the round) as I found them a bit fiddly and instead, just kept count of the pattern repeat. This worked fine but did require a bit more concentration.

The pattern is an interesting combination of lace, eyelets, stocking stitch and garter stitch and is available as a free download from Designer Yarns . It was surprisingly quick to knit and the yarns are gorgeous to work with. It’s big enough to wrap around my neck twice so bring on the cold weather!!
