The rings easily slip onto your needles to help keep a track when working in the round or tracking pattern repeats.
Stitch markers can be used in knitting to mark the beginning of a round or a point where you want to increase or decrease. They can also be helpful with counting stitches while casting on.
In patterns you will often find the abbreviations PM & SM.
PM = place marker – place the stitch marker on to your needle as if you were slipping a stitch purl wise.
SM – when you come to the marker, just slip it from one needle to the other and continue knitting as normal.
