More About Travelknitter Bluefaced Leicester DK

I first met Travelknitter several years ago at a knitting retreat on the Summer Isles in Scotland. I have always been impressed by the intensity of colours she creates and the quality of the yarn she uses. Sadly, she has now stopped dyeing so this is the last batch I am able to stock.

Bluefaced Leicester is a British rare breed sheep.  The wool is next-to-skin soft, and with a longer staple length than other yarns it is resistant to pilling.  This yarn has great texture, stitch definition, and springiness, and is the perfect go-to yarn for any cosy jumper or cardigan.

Travelknitter yarns are all hand-dyed in East London using only professional-grade acid dyes. The yarns are all carefully rinsed in an unscented wool wash.

About Travelknitter

All Travelknitter yarns are hand dyed by Larissa in a teeny studio space in East London.  The name Travelknitter originally came about as an online name, as Larissa had a tendency to grab her backpack and move across the world on a semi-regular basis, and knitting became a great way of meeting people in a new city.  When she has settled in East London, Travelknitter became the start of a yarn dyeing business.

Larissa’s dyeing journey began with the search for the perfect red yarn.  Her stash was overflowing with shades of red that weren’t quite right: either too bright, too pinkish, or just not rich enough.  She needed to take things into her own hands.  She took a yarn dyeing course and set to work on creating a red that made her heart sing.  That’s when Double Happiness was born, and it’s still one of her regular colourways many years later.

Larissa now dyes a whole range of colours, but only colours that she truly love!  Colourway inspiration now comes from travels to places across the world, or across the city.  She still creates colourways that are deep, rich, and saturated, and are created by using several layers of colour.  Larissa prefers to work on a small-scale so that each skein gets her full attention. The yarn is dyed in small batches of no more than six skeins at a time; there is no large production dyeing here!   durability.
